Feb 25 - 3/2 Trinity Report

Feb 27 9 am. The lodge is receiving snow today, accumulation approx 2 inches. Flows at Douglas are hovering just over 800 cfs and we’re expecting an increase as the day progresses. Water temps are oscillating between 42 & 43 degrees. TRRP elevated flows are expected to remain stable through the week, but please check flows and take appropriate safety precautions. Visibility remains in the 1.5 - 2 feet.

Feb 25 1 pm. It appears the Trinity forecast for the coming week is decent. We’ve had a number of factors, including Mother Nature, influencing river conditions and we’re expecting less changes until we head into March. There are few details to watch out for. 1) Watch for daily highs setting off low level snow melt especially in burn locations like Deadwood. 2) We have a few incoming systems promising more moisture from Sunday 2/26 through Tues 2/28. None of the daily precipitation levels appear to be higher than .5” but with low level snows melting, we “may” see higher turbidity. Currently the river is steelhead green at the lodge and visibility is 1.5 - 2 feet. Floats from Indian Creek down may be more productive because of warmer water and less turbidity (most likely coming from Deadwood).

TRRP flows should remain fairly constant for the next week at the higher level. Dicharge is currently around 700 cfs and we’re not expecting much change for the remainder of the week. The extended forecast shows light precipitation (although we’re in a winter storm warning) with wet days scheduled Sunday through Tues. Temps appear to be hanging around 42 - freezing levels until Tues that should not set too much of the new snow melting off. Wed 3/1 through Fri 3/3 look like good bets. Checking in the lodge or water flows a day or so prior would be a good idea. Anglers are catching fish both new and those that have been in the system for months. Standard patterns and techniques are the best and targeting specific water types once you find the fish for the day. Watch water temps; if we can stay above the 42 degree mark, fish activity and movement should be good for full day opportunities.
