Dec 30 - Trinity River Fishing Updates

December 30, 7:20 am. The river is significantly up this morning and we did not get a freeze at lower elevations below 3000 ft. The Trinity below the lodge at Douglas City is running right at 1000 cfs. Color and visibility at the lodge is a little off currently but not bad. We’re guessing the float above steel bridge may be ok for the morning but will probably discolor soon. Upper river should be fine in Limekiln gulch (500 cfs) depending on how high Rush Creek Station (currently 150 cfs) goes. All water stations are currently tracking higher and the river looks to be adding around 25 cfs per hour at Douglas. It looks like the predictive radar is showing the strongetst rains from 12 pm to 2 pm today and a rain total of 2”. Temps are comfortable with the right gear and I’d plan to go higher in the system as the water discolors. Please be careful! Water levels are changing rapidly!

Dec 30, 8:30 am. River at Douglas is at 1100 cfs. Starting already to lose visibility. It seems to be jumping pretty fast now. Upper river is the best bet if you’ll be fishing today.

Dec 30, 10:45 am. Flood watch issued. Upper river by the lodge is at 1350 cfs and heading up.

Dec 30, 4 pm. The river broke 2000 cfs and is still climbing. It looks like the color may be coming from runoff starting at Rush Creek. All gauges are going up still so we’re on hold until conditions begin to pause or change course.
